General information about things that Nicholas Hay knows about.

Visiting artist.

Today we had a guest speaker who is a really interesting bookmaker.  His name is Emelio Villaruel, but he doesn’t have a computer.  He had one really large book that when opened was a full sheet of 22×30 paper.  And, unlike a lot of artists books that I see, almost every page was a well composed and interesting composition.  He also had an interesting approach to monotypes where, instead of using plates, he would use thin sheets of vinyl.  This allowed for him to layer and create some really striking effects.

This is the outside cover of the really big book.

More books.

Several of the artist’s prints.

Yuko and the artist.  Sometimes Yuko gets too excited about things and has to touch everything.  I had to tell her to stop.
